Student Leaders in Elementary and Middle Schools

Dan Everett, ES Counselor and Andrea Callaway, Student Council Staff Advisor & MS Counselor

Elementary School

The Elementary School Ambassadors are a group of fifth grade students who are selected at the end of their fourth grade year. They are students who have demonstrated a capacity for leadership. This group gives students an opportunity to contribute to their school community and their larger community in meaningful ways. Each year, the Ambassadors help during the registration days in August, giving tours to our new families and entertaining the younger children while their parents are busy with paperwork. They inspired the Elementary School to donate for cancer research prior to the Terry Fox Run, taking a leadership role in the fundraising efforts. They often assist with assemblies by doing skits and videos as well.

This year’s Ambassadors pictured below, from left to right, are: Nife Ebiwonjumi, Mohamed Jamal, Mark Kluknavsky, Raj Hamlai, Karl Emil Hemmingsen, Skyler Ford, Eeman Abdulkadir, Rafaella Saa Rodriguez and Tia Aziz. Carrie Ann Jilan and Mackenzie Scheer are not pictured, as they left Oman during the school year.

I would like to thank each student in this fantastic group for their work this year, and we wish you well in the Middle School!

The future of student leadership at TAISM Elementary looks bright as we congratulate the following Ambassadors selected to begin in August 2012.

Middle School

A Student Council program is usually in place as a means for student expression and school leadership. Ideally, a Student Council strives to improve student life and encourages community relations amongst all members – students, staff and families. This year’s elected students seized the opportunity to fulfill these roles. As the year progressed, they honed their teamwork and communication skills. As a result of this hard work, the Middle School played an active role in community events such as helping with the Filipino garage sale for typhoon victims, organizing a Terry Fox bake sale and supporting a food drive for the Dar Al Atta organization. Internally at TAISM, there was no lack for community spirit as the students organized four Middle School parties and a four-day spirit week this year. When asked to reflect on her presidency, Ceci shared her sentiments by saying “We got a lot accomplished this year and I feel relieved that all our parties and projects went well.” Amani Ibrahim, grade 8 class representative, said that she most enjoyed being at the meetings and sharing ideas. As is tradition, Student Council concluded the year with the annual donation drive for the maintenance team at TAISM.
